πŸ”¦ A torch that can shout for help

Every phone has a flashlight. Almost none of them can signal. One tap here sends the actual Morse distress pattern β€” three short, three long, three short β€” on a loop, which is visible far further than a voice carries.

SOS Torch

A flashlight that also sends a real SOS in Morse code with one tap, plus a screen light and a strobe. Free on Android, no ads in your way, works instantly.

What it does

Who it is for

Drivers, walkers, campers, and anyone who would rather have it installed before the night it matters.

How to signal SOS, and why the timing matters

SOS is not three letters sent one after another. It goes out as a single unbroken group β€” three short, three long, three short β€” with no pause between the letters. That is what makes it unmistakable to someone who does not know Morse at all: they are not reading letters, they are seeing a pattern that nothing else produces.

Morse is built on one unit of time. A short flash lasts one unit, a long flash three. The gap between flashes inside a letter is one unit, and the gap between letters is three. SOS runs all nine flashes together on the short gap, then waits before repeating.

A group of three, evenly spaced and repeated, is widely understood as a call for help on its own β€” three flashes, three whistle blasts, three shouts. If a light has no SOS mode at all, three slow flashes repeated every minute still reads as distress.

Two things worth knowing before you need them. Sweep the beam slowly across the horizon rather than holding it still, because movement is what catches an eye at distance. And a phone torch run flat is a phone that cannot make a call, so signal in bursts rather than leaving it running.

Questions people ask

What is the SOS Morse signal?

Three short flashes, three long, three short, repeated. It is the internationally recognised distress signal and it is understood without any shared language.

Does it drain the battery?

The LED uses real power, so a continuous SOS will run a battery down over time. The screen light and the strobe cost far less if you only need to be seen nearby.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. Nothing in the app needs a connection.
